Town Center Economic Strategy (ongoing)

The borough of Media is the seat of Delaware County, just outside Philadelphia, affectionately known as "everybody's hometown." The borough is compact in geography at less than a square mile, with relatively dense housing amid a more sparsely populated hinterland, around an iconic "main street" that features one of the nation's few remaining suburban trolleys. Media is grappling with challenges common to charming, walkable communities: prices are rising, physical form is changing, and in the face of e-commerce and a booming restaurant industry, conventional retail faces an uncertain future.

Media and the County have engaged in significant planning over the last decade, and now need to focus on implementation. Funded by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission's TCDI program, the borough hired Econsult Solutions to develop an economic strategy and implementation plan. Econsult has asked JVM Studio to guide the plan's transportation and placemaking elements.
